[She shakes her head. She's been more awake, more alert, more aware, and it's made her a lot less timid than usual.

Even her handwriting is neater.]

Oh, wonderful!

[He beams at her and moves to go grab two plates.]

Oh, that's fantastic news-- how often have you been sleeping?

Once every six hours when I realized, and then a little less recently - I haven't needed more, that hasn't happened in two years!

[She turns the stove off]

I've been hoarding cocoa powder and vanilla for the past seven months just for something special like this.

[He laughs happily.]

Well, I'm sure it'll taste fantastic-- come on, let's each have a slice-- and thank you very much for inviting me.

[She hands him a knife, and pours a little custard on the bottom of both plates. To make it extra-special]

I would have shared with Sirius, but I think you appreciate chocolate more.

He does have rather a tendency to be rather thoughtless on the finer advantages of good chocolate.

[Carefully he cuts out two small slices-- she gets the larger slice, of course, since she baked it. Remus bites his lip a little as he sets his down, because-- well, it's chocolate.]

Thank you. Again.

[She pushes the large slice to him, and takes the smaller one. Don't argue, she's a girl.]

Do you know what we met? Before. When you were grown.

[He shakes his head.]

What? I hope it's good news.

[majestyofthethrone]

[She shrugs. It was terrifying, it was only a moment, she hadn't remembered or pieced it together. She was running and he was transforming, she had only been on board the ship a week or two.]

I had forgotten about it. It was only for a moment.

[She takes a bite of the cake]

I saw you transform.

[theshabbiestofmen]

[His face pales; after a moment he lets out a weak laugh and rubs his face.]

I, ah, hope I didn't see you. Or rather, I hope Moony didn't.

[She blushes a little. This had gone over a lot better in her head.]

Well, you told me to run, so I did. I hid in a duct. I didn't see anything after that.

This was a lot less creepy in my head.

No, it's not-- it's not creepy. I'm just--

[He gives her a tight smile.]

You know why I'd be worried about you being near Moony. God, I'd hate for you to-- that's not something you should ever have to be near.

Well, see? I'm fine. No problem. No fear of Remus.

[She does a little spin, and ends it with a flourish. Ta-da!!!]

I hadn't put the two together. Until the other day, when you told me, and then after I slept.

[He huffs a soft laugh and hunches over, pushing his fork into the slice of cake.]

I'm honestly surprised that I was stupid enough to transform where someone could find me when I was old.

There were circumstances. Ship ones.

Still. That's . . . did I harm anyone?

[Surely Sirius would have told him? But Sirius never likes to talk about the other Lupin he knew; Remus honestly doesn't even know how old he'd been.]

[She shakes her head.]

I don't think so. I don't remember anyone saying so. I got bitten by a wolf, that time, but it was a real one, one of the big ones that follow those kids around. Lady, was her name.

But I don't remember anyone saying that they had been hurt by you.

I . . .yes. I shouldn't imagine so, given that no one's brought it up. Still.

This is quite good, you know, you're very good at this.

[She takes a bite and smiles a little]

It's all math and chemistry, you know.

Two things I'm afraid I was never particularly good at. I never even took chemistry, to be honest, much to my mother's disappointment. Just enough math to know how to count before I left for Hogwarts.

[She looks at him, baffled]

Well I don't know any magic but I know numbers. I can turn numbers into music.

Can you show me?

[A beat, and then:]

Why are you looking like that? I'm a wizard, not a scientist; my parents knew that since I was a child.

[majestyofthethrone]

[She laughs]

But math is so important!

[But then she nods, and picks up his plate, and carries it. Luckily the music room is just down the hall.]

Not for a wizard, it isn't.

[Patiently he follows.]

I mean, it is, but not . . . I only really use it in arithmancy, and even that, it's more about studying the magical properties of numbers than actually multiplying them.
