Overthink. I think about things, I just don't obsess about them to myself--it's all right, it's a part of who you are. We've come to love it about you. But it's true.

[He mumbles that protest as he rolls over, pushing his face against the pillow. Muffled, then:]

What's that thing you and James always shout? Bury me where the arrow falls?

[doggedly]

[He claps his hands over his heart, with a heavy sigh.]

"Give me my good bow into my hands, and hold me up while I shoot. Where the arrow falls there bury me!"

Only you haven't got an arrow and I doubt you'd be able to do anything with it if you did.

That's not the point. The point is that if I die, you have to shoot an arrow for me-- in my stead, you understand-- and bury my remains there. If there are remains. Which there likely won't be.

Sorry, what exactly is happening to you that there aren't any remains? You're a wizard, aren't you? You're just going to, what--roll over and let the manticores have you?

Anyway, I'm going with you. Like hell I'd let you die. And that shooting and burying business sounds like far too much work--nooooo thanks. I'd rather just save your lousy hide and deal with you.

Absolutely not. But I could see where you might misinterpret my laziness for affection, desperate as you are.

[He smirks over at Sirius, full of a swaggery confidence (or at least pretending to be).]

[Coolly, he raises an eyebrow at Remus.]

And yet you got so excited at my possible affection. Now why is that?

I don't know if I'd call that excited. Amused, perhaps. Pleased. Not excited.

Nah, you seized on it too quickly for mere amusement. That was excitement if I ever heard it--and don't even try to deny it, all right, I know excitement when I hear it.

And so what if I am excited? Perhaps I just want your friendship.

[doggedly]

Oh, do you? Oh, Remus.

[He positively sighs his name, and presses his clasped hands to his chest in a fit of ecstasy--complete with eyelash fluttering and heavy drawn-in breath.]

Oh, I didn't know.

Yes, well. God knows I've played my cards against my chest, or kept my heart hidden, or whatever you'd like to call it. I'd appreciate a bit less breathless gasping, if it's all the same to you.

[doggedly]

Kept your heart against your hidden chest, maybe?

[He sighs, wistfully, and runs his fingers through his hair.]

But I shall try to restrain myself. For you.

[It's a joke, and said accordingly-- but he means it, he realizes, and so adds far more sincerely:]

Yeah, yeah.

[He's done with the eyelash fluttering and sighing and everything, just as abruptly as he started with it, and he waves Remus off dismissively--though he's smiling as he does it, which means that he is not-so-secretly pleased.]

Save it, Lupin, for some time where you actually need to thank me.
