[ james laughs, nodding almost proudly at the fact. ]
That we do- another pet or two and we could start up a zoo. Or possibly a circus. [ gwen's still tugging on remus' sock, starting to move backwards almost as if she's trying to pull it off his foot. ]
They're also apparently a fan of socks, by the way. [ whoops, didn't he mention that? ] Just...so you know.
[ he laughs a little as gwen continues to gnaw on remus' sock, pulling it back under the table with her. ]
Isn't she? [ and then he's just going to go and sit down on the floor now, reaching in to tug at the sock. gwen is not pleased but plays along anyway. ] And she's light, too. She should be flying around soon but she's still got to get a handle on her wings.
[ keeping that 'I knew you'd love her look' down to a more manageable level is about as much effort as james can put in. so he'll settle for looking quite pleased with himself while he keeps playing with gwen. ]
Couple of days, Rachel said. A few more months until she's done growing, I'd say, but there's not much else that'll change about her. Guess we lucked out on the breathing fire bit too, since now I won't have to worry about the house. Or the drapes. Or the other pets.
[ but his tone makes it obvious that wasn't on his mind at all. whoops? but gwen instantly seems more interested in remus, crawling over closer to him at the prospect of more pets.
and james just...puts on the most sheepish grin he can. ]
I'm not helping you. You're a married man; you can face your wife on your own.
[He says that sternly, very much not arguing this-- but he keeps petting at Gwen, scratching under her chin and along her chest, even rubbing at her belly once she flips over.]
I'm not asking for help. Just that...if she asks you about it. You've seen Gwen. She's harmless, and loveable, and definitely a good addition to the household.
[ not that he's nervous or anything. sirius had reassured him that remus would be the more difficult one to win over. but james wasn't so sure. ]
And your wife won't think so, because she's also a dragon. And I think you ought to talk to her about it before she even has a chance to see me, or anyone else, first.

[He lifts his foot a little, making it easier for her to tug his sock off-- which she does, with a happy little growl.]
She is rather adorable, all things considered.

[He peeks under-- and then gives up and clambers down from his chair, sitting on the floor as well.]

[He ignores the look as best he can. Gently Remus reaches forward, rubbing at Gwen's scaly back.]
Does Lily know yet?

She'll just take convincing, is all. But I'm going to tell her, you don't have to worry about that. As soon as she gets home.
